REACH Cornwall have arranged training to help hospitality workers and care homes in this uncertain time.

In light of the recent Coronavirus crisis, REACH Cornwall (a part-funded ESF project delivered by Truro and Penwith College), would like to reach out to professional chefs/cooks/kitchen staff from the hospitality sector in Cornwall.

If you are used to working in a professional kitchen, but perhaps have recently found yourself out of a job or underemployed due to the substantial business closures we are experiencing – have you thought about making yourself available to work/volunteer for a health or social care provider instead?

REACH Cornwall has a substantial network of residential care and nursing homes who are currently being asked to come up with urgent contingency plans for potential staff shortages in the upcoming weeks. Many of these workplaces are therefore looking for extra help at the moment and would be delighted to hear from experienced individuals who would be willing to offer their services either on a paid or voluntary basis.

REACH have therefore teamed up with specialists from Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, the Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group, and food connoisseurs to create a course that will give tips for what to consider when cooking nutritious, inspiring food that can be altered to fit a wide range of individual needs.

The sessions take place:

3rd of April 10.00am – 1.00pm

9th of April 10.00am – 1.00pm

The course will be an introduction to the theory behind why it is important to keep in mind factors such as texture, calorie content, nutrition, and the mechanics of eating when planning meals for those who might be elderly, disabled or have conditions that make eating more challenging.

After the session REACH will try to put you in contact with health and care/volunteer organisations who are looking for extra people.
