Standard Specification
This standard covers server systems used to underpin the server compute infrastructure at Plymouth University; these classified as “Enterprise Servers”. This standard excludes tactical implementation of compute power such as High Performance Computing (HPC) installations.
Enterprise servers consist of the platform hardware and operating system that enables the operating environment to support applications and databases that serve the majority of the user community. This standard is intended to provide guidance when selecting a server for a new application or when upgrading a server environment for an existing application. It must not be used to bypass any capacity planning and support analysis routines needed to ensure the new server environment is capable of meeting size, maintainability, performance and availability requirements.
