Standard Specification
This standard covers the client systems used to access the server, storage and presentation infrastructure services at Plymouth University; these client systems include only more traditional client end-points such as desktop, laptop and terminal (thin) computing devices. Ultra-mobile computing end-points such as tablets and smart phones are specifically excluded from this standard.
Client systems consist of the platform hardware and operating system that enables the operating environment to access and execute locally installed and remote applications, storage and information systems that serve the majority of the user community. This standard is intended to provide guidance when selecting an operating system for client systems used to access corporate services provided by Plymouth University or when upgrading client system environments as part of refresh cycles. It must not be used to bypass any planning and support analysis necessary to ensure client systems are capable of meeting the requirements of the user community.

Comments
The mobile client operating systems are currently not a supported service, the inclusion here is to inform the baseline for services being consumed by these devices now and in the future.
