This exciting international, multi-disciplinary conference focuses on how communication happens beyond words, how the arts use the unspoken, and how those who face problems communicating with words (such as those with dementia, strokes, autism and learning difficulties) are valued and included across communities.<\/p>\n<p>The conference will launch the final report of the Beyond Words research project between Plymouth Institute of Education and Plymouth Music Zone, one of only 8 national projects funded by the Arts Council England Research Grants programme.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lemn Sissay MBE, Poet and Writer<\/li>\n<li>Norma Daykin, Professor of Arts in Health, UWE and University of Winchester<\/li>\n<li>Carol Taylor, Co-editor,\u00a0<em>Posthuman Research Practices in Education<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Academics from across all disciplines, arts practitioners\/organisations, community organisations and representatives from Education, Health and Social Work are all encouraged to take part. Contributions can be papers, symposia, workshops or performances.<\/p>\n<p>The conference is organised under the following strands:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Posthumanism<\/li>\n<li>Equality and Inclusion<\/li>\n<li>Creativity and Wellbeing<\/li>\n<li>Caring<\/li>\n<li>Music and other Arts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Abstracts should include title, email address, chosen strand, and up to 100 words describing your paper, workshop or performance. Send to ihc@plymouth.ac.uk. Deadline for submission 1st December 2016; decisions will be made by 20th December 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Conference cost \u00a350 (includes registration, lunches and refreshments). Free places have been reserved for voluntary sector organisations and students on a first come first served basis.
