Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) (Dept. for Transport)

About the course:

The International Ship and Port-Facility Security (ISPS) Code specifies that the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) is responsible for the development, implementation, revision, and maintenance of the Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP). The PFSP outlines the required measures to prevent the unauthorised access of people, weapons and contraband into port, and provide for a safe and sterile working environment for international shipping operators.

Plymouth University’s PFSO course follows the framework of the ISPS Code, and is approved by the Department for Transport. On completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Execute the PFSO responsibilities in accordance with the ISPS Code and national requirements
  • Manage and revise port facility security plans
  • Coordinate effective search plans and security operations
  • Understand the ISPS code 2004 security levels and implement actions accordingly
  • Develop, maintain and review port facility access control
  • Conduct port security assessments and threat analyses.

The course is designed for any security officer with overall responsibility for port security under Department for Transport guidelines.

Duration:

This qualification must be undertaken over a minimum of three days.

Assessment:

An end of course exam will assess students.
