For good measure there are boarding operations and air attacks to contend with.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1159\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-3.jpg\" alt=\"monmouth-canada-3\" width=\"673\" height=\"447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-3.jpg 673w, https:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-3-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-3-560x372.jpg 560w, https:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-3-260x173.jpg 260w, https:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-3-160x106.jpg 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cutlass Fury began at a relatively gentle pace in Halifax \u2013 the Royal Canadian Navy\u2019s Atlantic home \u2013 with conferences, talks, presentations, an industry day where Monmouth showcased much of the kit installed during her refit last year, such as the Artisan radar and automatic 30mm gun (both of which will be fitted to the successor class of Type 26 frigates).<\/p>\n<p>The ship\u2019s company managed to sample some of the delights of Halifax, tried their hand at sea kayaking and watched the local ice hockey team, the Halifax Mooseheads, in action.<\/p>\n<p>And under glorious clear skies, and with the waterfront crammed with Haligonians, all 11 surface ships taking part in the exercise sailed into the Atlantic in procession.<\/p>\n<p>Dressed in their tropical white uniforms, Monmouth\u2019s sailors lined the frigate\u2019s upper deck to salute and cheer the Governor General of Nova Scotia aboard veteran supply ship HMCS Preserver, which acts as a floating \u2018petrol station\u2019 for warships in Halifax Harbour.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1160\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-4.jpg\" alt=\"monmouth-canada-4\" width=\"673\" height=\"447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-4.jpg 673w, https:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-4-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-4-560x372.jpg 560w, https:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-4-260x173.jpg 260w, https:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/dcss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Monmouth-Canada-4-160x106.jpg 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe visit to Halifax served a number of useful purposes, not least aiding co-operation with our international partners whilst demonstrating the ship\u2019s top war-fighting pedigree across a wide spectrum of capabilities,\u201d said Commander Phil Tilden, Monmouth\u2019s Commanding Officer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy team and I look forward to meeting the challenges of Cutlass Fury and harnessing every opportunity to build on our ability to work with our NATO partners \u2013 which will be crucial to our success when we embark on a nine-month deployment next year.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The crew of HMS Monmouth face two weeks of submarine hunting in some of the most challenging waters on the Seven Seas.
