Barnes<\/p>\n<p>The North Atlantic Treaty Organization brought two battle groups together\u00a0Tuesday\u00a0in a drill meant to demonstrate the alliance\u2019s ability to keep open vital supply lines between Poland and Lithuania, shoring up what military planners have identified as an alliance weakness.<\/p>\n<p>Allied militaries have been conducting a series of exercises in the Baltic region in recent days. The Saber Strike exercise has focused on <a class=\"icon none\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/closing-the-gap-nato-moves-to-protect-weak-link-in-defenses-against-russia-1466205268\">securing the so-called Suwalki Gap<\/a>, the border region between Poland and Lithuania.<\/p>\n<p>Military planners believe in the event of a conflict with Russia, its forces in Kaliningrad or Belarus could threaten to cut off the Baltic States from the rest of NATO.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are demonstrating our capability to secure our most vulnerable point, the Suwalki Gap,\u201d said Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite.<\/p>\n<p>Read more at : https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/nato-moves-to-shore-up-vital-supply-line-1497958408<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sourced The Wall Street Journal By Julian E.
