T<\/span>he Ministry of Defence<\/a> is facing hundreds of millions of pounds in \u201chidden costs\u201d\u00a0for the RAF’s new generation warplane <\/a>that will be unable to fly properly due to defence cuts, it has been reported.<\/p>\n

The Times<\/a> said that it had carried out an investigation which had identified a catalogue of problems with the US-built F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Manufacturer Lockheed Martin has said the aircraft will cost the UK between \u00a377 million and \u00a3100 million each.<\/p>\n

However, The Times said the true cost of the jets delivered this year will be more than \u00a3150 million each to cover \u201cextras\u201d\u00a0such as software upgrades and spare parts.<\/p>\n
