G\u00fcl was president between 2007 and 2014 during Erdo\u011fan\u2019s time as premier.<\/p>\n<p>Erdo\u011fan and G\u00fcl founded AKP with others in 2001. After G\u00fcl stepped down in 2014, Erdo\u011fan was elected as president. G\u00fcl said the leader of the Saadet (Felicity) Party, Temel Karamollao\u011flu, had independently sought to rally supporters behind the former President. &#8220;I had said that if there was a wide consensus, I would not shy away from doing my bit,&#8221; G\u00fcl said.<\/p>\n<p>G\u00fcl has abstained from politics after 2014, a point which he stressed on April 28. &#8220;We are too busy with reciprocal personal attacks and political manoeuvring rather than what is good for Turkey&#8230; Turkey unfortunately does not have a positive agenda.
