Designed in the aftermath of the 9\/11 attacks, it is implemented through XI-2 SOLAS (Safety Of Life At Sea) convention.<\/p>\n<p>The training and certification is in accordance with the learning objectives set out in Section A-VI\/5 of the amended STCW Code and MNTB Guidelines, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain and supervise the implementation of a ship security plan<\/li>\n<li>Assess security risk, threats and vulnerability<\/li>\n<li>Undertake regular inspections of the ship to ensure appropriate security measures are implemented and maintained<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that security equipment and systems, if any, are properly operated, tested and calibrated<\/li>\n<li>Encourage security awareness and vigilance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualification<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) STCW A-VI\/5 Ship Security Officer (SSO).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Three days &#8211; \u00a3750<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In-house training options also available, please call us for more information.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This qualification must be undertaken over a minimum of 3 days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>31 July-2 Aug 2018<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Entry Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Approved seagoing service of not less than 12 months or<\/p>\n<p>At the discretion of the MCA-appropriate sea service (minimum three months) and knowledge of ships operations to enable them to achieve the objectives of the training.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An end of course exam will assess students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Location<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Delivered on the University of Plymouth main campus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.plymouth.ac.uk\/business-partners\/partnerships\/dartmouth-centre-seapower-strategy<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About the course Our course follows the ISPS Code, which is a comprehensive set of maritime security measures to enhance the safety and security of ships and port facilities against criminal, terrorist, espionage, and piracy threats.
