The <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/gpmeme\/about\/people\/\">Steering Committee<\/a> met with partners including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joanna Norman (Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK)<\/li>\n<li>Esther Starkenburg (Erfgoed Leiden, The Netherlands)<\/li>\n<li>Anouk Janssen (Museum Catharijneconvent, Utrecht, The Netherlands)<\/li>\n<li>Marie Lennersand (Riksarkivet, Stockholm, Sweden)<\/li>\n<li>Kajsa Brilkman (Lund University, Sweden)<\/li>\n<li>Alexandra von Schwerin (Skarhult Castle, Sweden)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On Day 1 the group outlined plans and outputs for the network covering topics encompassing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Intellectual questions about objects and their relationship to power and gender (e.g. gloves).<\/li>\n<li>How to foster a dialogue between academics from history, literature, material culture, art history, and archivists, curators and exhibitions to share practices in a mutually beneficial way for those studying and displaying collections and archives.<\/li>\n<li>How each member of the group brings a distinct sector knowledge to bear on collections, practices and displays.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Day 2 was hosted by Baroness Alexandra von Schwerin at Skarhult Castle in Esl\u04e7v, Sweden. The morning involved presentations by participants, followed by a guide-tour led by Baroness von Schwerin to view the castle&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/skarhult.se\/en\/8\/the-exhibition\/power-in-disguise\"><strong><em>Power in disguise<\/em><\/strong><\/a> exhibition, and consultation meeting with the network partners advising on future developments for Skarhults kulturminne.<\/p>\n<p>Discussion topics included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strengthening international relationships between museums, exhibitions, archives and academics.<\/li>\n<li>Pooling expertise and knowledge brought to bear on collections; curating exhibitions and interrogating practices<\/li>\n<li>Sharing interpretation of collections to schools, local history groups and general public \u2013pedagogy and outreach.<\/li>\n<li>Gift-shop culture -providing expert knowledge contributing to the development of items (e.g. jewellery and postcards) for sale in museum shops.<\/li>\n<li>Contributing to public debates about Women\u2019s and Gender History.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The first network event was held in Sweden in October 2015 at Lund University and Skarhult Castle.
