Open Access Week<\/a> is an annual, international event which aims to put open access and related topics in the spotlight. This year, Open Access Week will take place on the 25th-31st of October<\/strong>. Its theme is ‘It Matters How We Open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity’.<\/p>\n The Library will be running a series of events in celebration of Open Access Week. Find out more below:<\/p>\n These Digital Profile Health Checks will be an opportunity to take a look at your Symplectic Elements, ORCID, Scopus, and Web of Science identifiers, ensure that they are complete and correct, and find out how to sync these identifiers to minimise the manual burden of updating them.<\/p>\n Sessions will be held on the following dates:<\/p>\n During Open Access Week, these sessions will be drop-in with no booking required, but this is a service we are more than happy to provide at any time of year. If you would like to arrange a timed 1:1 either in-person or online<\/strong>, contact your Information Specialist<\/a> or email openresearch@plymouth.ac.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Paywall: The Business of Scholarship<\/em> is a documentary which focuses on the need for open access to research and science. It questions the rationale behind the billions of pounds per year that flow into for-profit publishers, and examines the 35-40% profit margin associated with the top academic publisher, Elsevier.<\/p>\n The documentary will be screened in Charles Seale-Hayne Library, Room 008<\/strong>, from 12:00-14:00, 27th October <\/strong>with no booking required. The screening will last approximately an hour, with time afterwards for a Q&A on all things open access. Join us & bring your lunch!<\/strong><\/p>\n Researchers who cannot make the timed screening can also watch the documentary free of charge online<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Publishing Trap is a board game from the UK Copyright Literacy team<\/a> that allows participants to explore the impact of scholarly communications choices and discuss the role of open access in research by following the lives of four researchers \u2013 from doctoral research to their academic legacies.<\/p>\n The Publishing Trap is aimed at early career researchers and academics<\/strong>, as well as anyone who has a vested interested in understanding how access to information works and how the whole scholarly communication system in higher education operates.<\/p>\n Join us for a game on Thursday 28th October, 16:00-18:00<\/strong> in Charles Seale-Hayne Library, Room 008\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 no booking required.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Open Access Week is an annual, international event which aims to put open access and related topics in the spotlight.
