And of course, meaningful change will involve\u00a0work! But\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.devonclimateemergency.org.uk\/net-zero-visions\/#:~:text=Net%2DZero%20Visions%20brings%20together,carbon%20net%2Dzero%20in%202050.\">Net-Zero Visions<\/a> is a reminder that the Carbon Plan and net zero transition are\u00a0not just a chore or\u00a0penance or exercise in self-denial \u2013 they are\u00a0about making a better\u00a0world that we, and those who come after us, get to live\u00a0in \u2013 a world that not\u00a0only does what has to be done, to minimise catastrophe, but that could be\u00a0more fun, pleasurable, rewarding\u00a0\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe imagination goes ahead of action. Picturing in detail how the world around you might be better can be the first step to making it so. However, while climate change affects everyone, different communities and individuals face different challenges in relation to it. Net-Zero Visions aims to support and encourage as many people as possible in exploring how the places where they live might change for the better, as a step towards making real the ambitious but urgently necessary goals of the Devon Carbon Plan.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_647\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-647\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-647 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/sustainableearth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2022\/03\/David-Sargeant.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/sustainableearth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2022\/03\/David-Sargeant.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.plymouth.ac.uk\/sustainableearth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2022\/03\/David-Sargeant-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-647\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr David Sergeant<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Net-Zero\u00a0Visons is where dreams and desires for a\u00a0better life \u2013 more environmentally sustainable,\u00a0but also\u00a0potentially more satisfying, imaginative, pleasurable, equitable, healthy in every\u00a0sense \u2013 get harnessed to what\u2019s possible\u00a0and what\u2019s already available. With\u00a0this work performed on actual locations, overlaying a possible and wanted\u00a0future onto the places that surround us, that we walk and breathe in, the\u00a0places we know and that are part of\u00a0our daily lives. Bringing a different\u00a0version of those places into being, so you see not just what is possible, but\u00a0how close they might be to the world you&#8217;re currently in.<\/p>\n<p>And\u00a0then: sharing these visions. If you\u2019re already involved in net transition or\u00a0related work in your community,\u00a0and are in one of the locations where a\u00a0professional media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devonclimateemergency.org.uk\/net-zero-visions\/#:~:text=Net%2DZero%20Visions%20brings%20together,carbon%20net%2Dzero%20in%202050.\">Net-Zero Visions<\/a> will be set, using the Visions as\u00a0a way of\u00a0drawing more people in, to raise an awareness of what is needed and possible,\u00a0and to engage them\u00a0in making it happen.<\/p>\n<p>And\u00a0if you\u2019re not involved in one of the location visions, getting involved with\u00a0the process in relation to where\u00a0you live, perhaps with the people around you.\u00a0This could be as casual as simply raising it as a question round\u00a0the pub or\u00a0caf\u00e9 table, \u2018in the best possible world, what would this place look like in\u00a02050?\u2019 \u2013 and don\u2019t let your imagination be shy, really go to town \u2013 you might be surprised that what can initially seem pretty wild starts to feel more like <em>well, really, why not? <\/em>when you\u2019ve started to think about it.<\/p>\n<p>In the months to come there\u2019ll also be the chance to make a net\u00a0zero vision yourself and\u00a0submit it to the project website, where it will join others to\u00a0make a Devon\u00a0mosaic of desired futures. Equally, why not use the idea of imagining a net zero future in work you\u2019re already\u00a0doing with other people,\u00a0whether you\u2019re a teacher or a parish councilor or a farmer looking to\u00a0adjust to the changes in the basic payment scheme?
