Potentiometer (Glossary Entry)

A potentiometer is a continuously variable resistor, arranged as a three-pin potential divider circuit.

Internally the potentiometer is a resistor track with an additional contact (middle terminal) which slides along the length of the track. The position along the track is set by the angle of the dial. Therefore, the potentiometer is a continuously variable potential divider.
