Act on Acceptance!

Kim Davies, from the Academic Engagement team, explains about the new rules and processes for Open Access.

You may be aware that HEFCE’s policy for REF2021 has changed and from 1st April 2018, all outputs must be deposited within 90 days of acceptance.

With this in mind, we have created a new depositing process. The 3-step process takes 5 minutes.
You are no longer required to attach a manuscript statement and you only require 4 pieces of information: Acceptance Date, Author Names, Title, Journal Title.

  1. Type in Title or DOI
This checks to see if a co-author has already deposited it into our repository, to save you duplicating the work.
  2. Fill out Online Form
Fill out the authors (drag into correct order), acceptance date, title & journal title.
  3. Upload file and Deposit
Upload the correct version, usually a PDF of author’s accepted manuscript, then confirm the deposit.

Items will enter the repository as closed and embargoes can be applied manually by the Open Research Team. Additional information will merge with the basic record as soon as Elements can harvest it from the publisher.

We ask all authors to Act On Acceptance and deposit their work as soon as they know they are accepted for publication! Due to the policy changes, we can’t guarantee that a reminder to deposit will be sent to authors in time.
