Finding the Funny Peculiar: Autumn Clown Classes for Adults
Starting 29 September 2016, 6.30 – 8.30 pm
at the Kennaway Centre, Exmouth, Devon
These classes, led by Dr Maggie Irving, are about letting your hair down and revealing your strangely smart yet fabulously foolish side. Maggie’s AHRC-funded practice-as-research PhD at Plymouth University explored clowning for and by women; she was supervised by Prof Roberta Mock and Dr Victor Ladron de Guevara in the School of Humanities & Performing Arts.
In a safe and supportive setting, Maggie’s classes will experiment with how to be funny and how we create laughter. The dynamics of clowning will be learned through play, parody, emotional states and audience interaction.
The classes are suitable for adults who want to develop a set of skills that they can use in their life, business or stage performances or for people who want to try an unusual yet fun activity that gives them cheer and involves some serious creativity and learning. They are suitable for both trained performers and non-performers.
£10 per session or pay in advance: six weeks for the price of five. There will also be a special welcome pack for the first 10 people to sign up.
