Photographer, documentary film director and anthropology researcher, Benjamin Pothier, is joining Dr Ulyana Horodyskyj, a glaciologist and climate change educator trained as a Scientist-Astronaut in the PoSSUM program, for an expedition to Ngozumpa Glacier in Nepal in May-June 2016.
The team will conduct scientific research into glacier melting that could become a threat to the population nearby, repair a weather station which was destroyed during the 2015 earthquake and plan to make a donation of a solar power system to a Sherpa community in need.
Benjamin is a PhD candidate in Plymouth University’s Planetary Collegium programme. With three previous expeditions to the Arctic Circle, his work and research has been presented worldwide from Johannesburg to Tromsø, at the world’s northernmost university. He plans to direct a documentary about the expedition, and also to test innovative gear and devices including dehydrated space food and new techwear products.
