ANKARA SAYS IMIA ISLETS IS TURKISH TERRITORY RESPONDING TO EU PROGRESS REPORT

Turkey has attacked the European Commission’s progress report, accusing the European Union of being “unwilling to understand the difficulties” the country is facing.

A statement issued by the country’s Foreign Ministry said that “the Kardak Rocks and their territorial waters and airspace above them are exclusive under Turkish sovereignty,” in reference to Greece’s Imia islets.

In the same statement, Ankara blames Nicosia for failed efforts to settle the longstanding Cyprus issue, while accusing the Greek Cypriot side for exploiting the country’s membership of the bloc.
