4 August 2017: “Queer Beyond London” event in Plymouth

Taking place at 2pm on Saturday 4th August is a Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery “Museum on Tour” event at The Council House, Armada Way, Plymouth PL1 2AA.

Come and share your experiences of themes including family and kinship, migration and movement, activism and community building, and the uses of history.

Queer Beyond London is a collaboration between Birkbeck College, University of London and Leeds Beckett University, in partnership with the Raphael Samuel History Centre, to research histories of LGBTQ identities and communities in Manchester, Leeds, Plymouth, and Brighton from the 1960s to the present.

Drawing on the work of Plymouth University’s Dr Alan Butler and his Plymouth LGBT Archive project, Queer Beyond London is the first comparative project to research the impact of locality on queer histories and experiences outside the capital.

The event considers the local significance of famous LGBTQ landmarks, community networks, migration, gentrification and the intersection of sexual, religious, ethnic, class and gender identities and identifications. It will also gather new interviews relating to the impact of these issues on local LGBTQ communities.

Anyone with an interest in queer or hidden histories are welcome to attend the FREE event on Saturday and places can be booked here.
