Rolle 211 | 3pm – 5pm
Over the last decade the role of the national museums as centres for organised research has been transformed out of all recognition. The exploitation of new technologies and access to new streams of funding have encouraged these changes as has new thinking about the role of museums and of collections and how they meet the needs of their audiences. Focusing on the speaker’s experience as founding Head of Research at Tate, the lecture will consider how art and other museums operate as research organisations, how they engage with researchers in other sectors and what are the aims and ambitions of their research strategies?
