Calling The Community

Centre for Coastal Communities

Are you passionate about coastal communities, and want to make a difference? Are you interested in understanding these communities’ challenges and problems and contributing to their solutions? The South West Coastal Local Policy Innovation Partnership (SWC LPIP) is recruiting a cohort of community researchers from coastal communities to work as part of the project, sharing their local knowledge and expertise. If you are passionate about your local coastal community and understand their challenges, this is an exciting opportunity to give a voice to an often forgotten community.

As a community researcher, you will:

  • Bring your personal experience and intimate knowledge of the issues affecting your community to the table.
  • Act as a bridge between your community and the project, ensuring that the voices of coastal residents are represented.
  • Work closely with university researchers to analyse the outcomes, draw meaningful conclusions, and collectively decide on the best course of action.

Anyone can be a community researcher, what matters most is:

  • Have a good understanding and interest in the issues affecting your local community.
  • Enjoy communicating and working with different people.
  • Be already working in coastal communities.

As a community researcher, you will be involved in:

  • Initial Training Session: Attend a short but comprehensive training session, either in person at the University of Plymouth or online. This session will equip you with the necessary tools and knowledge to excel in your role.
  • Workshops with Community Members: Participate in 4-5 interactive workshops alongside other community members. During these sessions, you’ll share the views and insights from your community, fostering collaboration and idea-sharing.
  • Peer Research: Engage in active listening and discussions within your community to gain a deeper understanding of the issues they face. You will bring these valuable perspectives back to the project, ensuring community voices are central to our decision-making process.
  • Collaboration with University Researchers: Work closely with our team of university researchers to analyse the outcomes, draw meaningful conclusions, and collectively decide on the best course of action.
