These days we are increasingly sharing thoughts, experiences, images and self-produced videos online. The internet provides a platform enabling anyone to be an author, director, entertainer and/ or critic. We can be who or whatever we want to be through our ‘digital identity’.
However, just as you need to be ‘streetwise’ in the physical world, so you also need to be aware of the implications of being part of the ‘virtual global society’.
In order to best utilise opportunities offered through the web, students need to be able to manage their digital identity as much as they can – this includes being sensible about what information they are putting online about themselves, ensuring they are not compromising their security or future chances. They need to be able to confidently make the web work for them as they promote themselves through the various global channels available.
myBrand is a collection of resources, presented as an e-portfolio (or webfolio), that aims to help students confidently promote themselves and their work online. It also contains advice about keeping safe on the web, links to help students improve their e-literacy skills and information about legalities such as copyright and accessibility. For fun, it includes links to lots of free cool tools too! For further information please see the myBrand Guide.
(‘myBrand’ was produced from a Teaching Fellowship Project undertaken by Flea Palmer in 2008/9).
myBrand is also available as an eBook – eGo – that can be embedded into any web page.
Open publication – Free publishing – More self-promotion
