Podcasting Experiences

Podcasting has many benefits to both teaching staff and students.  See the examples of good practice below for inspiration.

Fiona Dalton – Plymouth Business School
Fiona has been using podcasting now for some time.  Fiona sets her 3rd year accounting students an assignment where they have to create a podcast detailing accounting practice.  This has a twofold pedagogic benefit in that it helps the student to contextualise and understand the subject and the podcasts are then used as a teaching aid for successive cohorts.  The podcasts are usually created using Nintex and uploaded to the appropriate module folder on the portal, although Fiona allows her students to create podcasts using alternative software. In this podcast Fiona describes the experiences of herself and her students.

Stuart Williams – Health & Social Work
Stuart has been using audio podcasts with first year students on the Working in Health and Social Care Organisations module for three years and the process has been steadily improved and refined over this time. The podcasts are usually 30-35 minutes in duration and delivered in a seminar format.  The feedback from students has been very positive.

Maggie Hemsworth – Law
Maggie is currently working on creating vodcasts  for students on the PgDip Legal Practice course.  The aim behind these vodcasts is: to give an overview to a particular topic or subject, to explain issues and to give further information on more complex problems.
