As we settle into 2020 now is a great time to revisit LinkedIn Learning and how it can be used to enhance not only teaching and learning, but also personal development.
At the University of Plymouth, both staff and students benefit from a site wide licence to LinkedIn Learning giving unlimited access to over 15,000 courses from industry-learning specialists.
What is LinkedIn Learning?
LinkedIn Learning combines industry-leading content from Lynda.com with personalised course recommendations based on insights from LinkedIn’s network. LinkedIn Learning provides a personalised learning journey for users to align their learning against their curriculum, personal interests and employability requirements.
How can LinkedIn Learning enhance my teaching?
LinkedIn Learning has many pedagogical benefits, including:
- enabling teaching staff to embed LinkedIn Learning content in a flipped classroom environment to reserve precious lecture time for in-depth discussion and focus
- allows the creation of collections to be embedded into the curriculum to develop and enhance students’ academic and soft skills
- supports student led learning in a ‘Learn anytime, anywhere’
A course on ‘Teaching with LinkedIn Learning’ provides various strategies on embedding LinkedIn Learning in your teaching.
LinkedIn Learning and employability
LinkedIn Learning supports employability in many ways including:
- personalised recommendations for users at the important milestones in career development
- allows creation of customised Learning Paths for specific groups of learners
- availability of hundreds of courses supporting transferable soft skills
- connection to LinkedIn profiles allowing users a more personalised learning experience including course recommendations tailored to professional experience, job title, industry background and needs. Course competition certificates can be added easily to the certificate section of your LinkedIn profile to showcase skills
LinkedIn Learning paths
In addition to an extensive library of courses, LinkedIn Learning also contain Learning paths which are compiled playlists of related video courses on a specific topic or career track. They include multiple courses by different expert instructors to teach a variety of skills and information associated with that subject or profession. For example; Become a Python Developer, Become a Graphic Designer, Become a Senior Manager Etc.
