Mary Jacobs Memorial Lecture: Mrs Moreau’s Warbler – How Birds Got Their Names
Naturalist, broadcaster and author Stephen Moss combines detective work, natural history, folklore and first-hand observations to explore how birds got their names and our long and eventful relationship with the natural world.
Stephen will give the fifth annual lecture in memory of Dr Mary Jacobs, who taught at the University for 20 years. Mary had a particular interest in life writing, and in the writing of Sylvia Townsend Warner, gaining her doctorate from Plymouth with a thesis on gender, genre and politics in the novelist’s work.
