Whilst every effort has been made to ensure QuizIt is as intuitive and easy to use as possible, there’s a lot going on under the hood to automatically provide you, the Quizzer, the questions you are interested in or at least give you a heads up on the current difficulty of a question you are about to answer!

Different areas of the app display questions slightly differently, but essentially they are all made up the same way. When you are shown a question, you can see the current difficulty of at question. This is generated by a weighted average. Whenever a question has been answered, your current ranking and the amount of times you took to answer the question are stored. This data is then used to provide you with a continuous difficulty rating.

It’s weighted for various reasons, firstly we felt that experienced Quizzers are likely to be more knowledgeable and also that it’s a reward for their hard work in the app. Also that new users might not be using it for serious learning and therefore their answers may not be the answer they actually thought. We’ve all looked at an app for the first time and to see what it can do, just frantically tap around to figure it out etc. well a weighted average we feel helps gives our more active users real accurate data.

When a question is born, it’s difficulty is unknown as it has nothing to go by. But as soon as Quizzers Start answering the question and there is enough data then a difficulty rating is generated.

The ratings are Unknown, Easy, Medium and Hard and it’s very interesting working through a series of questions and seeing what generally Quizzers find difficult.

If a question is marked as hard, it generally could be a difficult question…or it could be an inaccurate one! Which is precisely why we allow Quizzers to rate the question if they think it’s a good or a bad question.
